Meet our conductors: Rachel Forbes

Rachel started learning the flute at the age of 13 in Belfast and then went on to study at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland formerly known as the RSAMD. After graduating Rachel enjoyed many years both performing as a freelance flautist, playing in chamber groups and teaching. At present Rachel holds the position of flute teacher at Hutchesons’ Grammar School in Glasgow and conducts various wind and flute ensembles.

Meet our conductors: Aisling Agnew

Aisling Agnew comes from Belfast. She initially learned the flute with Billy Dunwoody in the 39th Old Boys Flute Ensemble and, after studies at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (formerly RSAMD) and Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London, has gone on to form a busy and varied career performing internationally. Aisling has released several recordings and she works regularly with various ensembles including her long-standing Flute & Guitar Duo with Matthew McAllister.

World AIDS Awareness Day, 1st December 2014.

We were honoured to be asked to provide the music for Glasgow’s World Aids Awareness event at the City Chambers. We heard from a number of speakers that, although great strides have been made in terms of acceptance and medical treatment, much still needs to be done to support people with HIV/AIDS and their friends, families and communities. We hope to be able to support this cause again in the future.

Big Flute Challenge 2014

flyerbfc

Newly formed Flute Phonics travelled to Belfast to participate in the Big Flute Challenge, an attempt to set the world record for largest Flute Ensemble. While we didn’t manage to break the record, we had a great time playing with 800+ flautists of all types and nationalities, and seeing the sights of beautiful Belfast. We look forward to going again next year.
